Christmas Points to the Cross

After Christmas and all its celebration is over it is a good time to ask ourselves what is the true meaning of Christmas? To many it is just a family holiday to get together, feast, give presents and see what Santa Claus brings. Religious people understand Jesus Christ was born, but usually miss the true meaning of Christmas.
Christmas means more than Jesus the Messiah being born in Bethlehem. Why did God send His Son to earth to become a man? What was His mission? The angel called His name Jesus because he will save His people from their sin. Paul says “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” “God commended His love toward us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.” Christ died to save us from eternal damnation in hell. We all are sinners who need to be saved by Jesus Christ. His death made it possible for Him to save us. We are not saved by His death alone. Many people believe if they believe Jesus loves them and died for them they are saved. This is false.
The cross alone does not save anyone. Jesus died on the cross to purchase for us the salvation of the new birth. Without the cross we could not be born again. Jesus saves us by forgiving sin and giving the new birth. There is no salvation without the new birth. Jesus said, “You must be born again to enter . . . . heaven.” No baptism, no sinners prayer, no altar call, no verbal profession of Christ, no church or church membership , no good works, or religious practices, no mental faith, no religious creed, nor any other thing the modern Church teaches can save you. If you do not experience the new birth you are lost and will perish in hell.
